My love of Bernese started back when I was a teenager watching the Westminster Dog Show with my grandfather. I've always loved big dogs but the Bernese just had something special. Every year we would watch the show and I would say
" one day Pop I'm gonna have them". Well that day came in July 2003 with our first berner, Anja. I totally fell in love with her and the breed. I've never been so excited about a dog before. She was well worth the wait! Anja introduced me to the world of dog shows, conformation to be exact. We always had fun if I was showing her or our friend Chuck. I met many new people through Anja that are still my friends today. She taught me great love and also heartbreaking loss. I always wanted a puppy out of Anja but when she was bred she never took. Sadly we lost her in April of 2008 to unknown causes. She will forever be remembered by everyone she met and remain in my heart forever~
In August 2005 we got Lola from Windy Knob kennel. She is a well built girl but did not like the ring much, she also suffered an ACL tear in May 2008 that she didn't totally recover from enough to get back in the ring yet. She lived with us until January 2009, after much thought it was decided that she would not stay with us and went back to live with her breeder. We miss Lola but know she is in a good home.
My husband and I have always liked standard poodles, although I never wanted to show them in conformation due to the fluff involved. After much searching for a reputable poodle breeder I found J & E Poodles, Ellen and Jeff Wood. In November 2006 we brought home Dolce and Bella ( brother and sister). I couldn't chose between the two of them so got both. Bella has always been very laid back and sweet. Dolce had those poodle hunting instincts and would chase our cat's like rabbits. I hoped he would grow out of it but never did. I knew I had to find him a home that would never have cat's. It was a very hard goodbye as he and I were very attached to each other, I always called him "my little man". He was a great dog and we miss him very much! Bella is still with us and always will be. We never planned on breeding poodles but when recently visiting her breeder she thought Bella was worthy of being bred. Ellen is great. Her dogs all are so happy and live in her house and also share her bed! I consider Ellen a good friend, she is always there if I have a question and truly loves her dogs. We bred Bella and she had a beautiful litter, we kept Amber and she is so much like her Mom!
Our most recent Bernese is Anyx. She is from The Barking Bunch kennel in the Netherlands, same kennel we got our Anja from back in 2003. I highly recommend Peter & Jose if looking to purchase a berner abroad. We have always kept in contact over the years and they were there if I had questions. We hope to one day visit them. Anyx came to us July of 2008, she was born just a few weeks after Anja passed away. When Peter let me know Krizzy had her puppies I was so excited, which was a great feeling after being so sad. We named her with an "A" in honor of Anja and hoped Anja would put a little touch of her in Anyx. I think she did because in so many ways she reminds us of her. She is a very sweet girl with a zest for life! We have high hopes for Anyx in the ring as well as the whelping box in the future. She is still young and will start being shown very soon. I do like her conformation, not every dog is perfect, she has her flaws and that is where we will try to improve on when choosing a stud dog.
We recently got Cherri ,our french bulldog, from French Fry Bulldogs. So far it is very interesting to have a small dog around! Not long after geting Cherri we got Cash, we co-own him with French Fry Bulldogs. Visit the Cherri-Bulz tab.
We love our dogs and treat them as members of our family. They travel with us when possible and they love going camping. Our dogs live in our home not a kennel. They share our bed on occasion and our laps often. They are close companions first, showing and breeding are last.
